DWTS – week 4 – Posture

Posture was one of the key topics in this weeks show. Shane, being a boxer for many years has been trained to protect his face by stooping forward and rounding his shoulders, which goes against the correct posture for dance. As his dance coach, I have been working on rolling his shoulders back and extending his neck. We have also been stretching to open his chest and stand tall.

One of the many reasons dance is so good for you is the posture. Learning to hold yourself correctly is not only great for your body's wellbeing, it shows confidence and positivity. A lot can be said about a person who has great posture. It can help you seem more approachable and open, rather than closed off and shy. Great posture can help you avoid back and neck pain, which means you can be much more productive in your work and play time.

A great way to improve your posture, is to try a dance class, Pilates or try the following exercise at home.

Correct posture in Ballroom and Latin-American dance goes a long way to ensure the couple can not only connect properly, but can also look the part.
